ABOUT US

The Sewing Sistas began their friendship on the first day of homeroom in 9th grade when Melissa sat behind Trish and offered her a pixie stick. This alphabetical arrangement lead to a 15 year (and counting!) friendship based on, among other things, a love of all things crafty.

Trish (by Melissa)

Trish is one of those people who is so full of raw, effortless talent that it’s almost alarming.  Not only is she a highly skilled sewer, knitter, and general crafter, she sings beautifully, can hold her own in any subject from anthropology to zoology, and is a wonderful mom to her beautiful baby, Hazel.  When she isn’t flexing her photoshop skills at work or working on her next crafty project (and blogging about it) she can usually be found at the park with Hazel, on the couch with a good book, or sitting around the kitchen table with her husband, a good meal, and a good game. She also has the notable distinction of having been one of the most important parts of my life for the last 15 years (and counting)!

Melissa (by Trish)

Melissa is a woman of many talents, and her originality shines through in everything she does. She naturally infuses every aspect of her life with creativity whether she's organizing her yarn, improvising a cool harmony to a song, or brainstorming novel ways to study infant
perception and memory as part of her PHD research at Rutgers. Seriously, going through her craft supplies is inspiring. She's also an incredibly motivated person, and hard working besides. If you call her at 7am and ask her what she's up to she's likely to say "Oh, just drinking my morning coffee and working on a quilt". Call her at 10pm and it's the same thing minus the coffee, plus a research paper, some obscure and long forgotten craft that she's decided to learn, baking a cake from scratch, or brushing up on Calc 3. She's also become a big fan of books on tape these days as she spends a lot of time driving back and forth between New Jersey and Boston to spend time with her fiancé – and of course, me.
